A few years ago, Evan Roderick, an established Actor from Vancouver, reached out to me to photograph the recording process & album cover for his latest EP, Upside Down.

Evan recorded at the legendary Afterlife Studios, formerly Mushroom Studios here in Vancouver. The room once held Diana Ross, The Supremes, and Led Zeppelin just to name a few icons.

During our consultation for his album cover photo shoot, the idea of him alone in an apartment with the feeling of ‘longing and lonesome’ came to mind. We connected about what ‘Upside Down’ meant, not only in words but in songs. I wanted to keep his apparel timeless, focusing on his facial expressions to tell his story. 

I decided the best course of action would be natural light, 35mm film photography with a film stock that felt glowy and warm. The result from these images feel natural, and raw.
